Prime Minister Narendra Modi is most likely to visit Europe from May 2 to 6, with the purpose of having bilateral meetings with re-elected French president Emmanuel Macron and German chancellor Olaf Scholz. According to reports the other purpose of this visit is to address the India-Nordic summit in Copenhagen.
PM Modi, recently, congratulated Macron for being re-elected as the President of France for a second term with a resounding number of votes and the former is expected to drop by in Paris to meet and greet one of India’s closest bilateral partners. PM Modi posted a tweet well-wishing Macron, the tweet said, “Congratulations to my friend Emmanuel Macron on being re-elected as the President of France! I look forward to continuing working together to deepen the India-France Strategic Partnership.”
Both India and France are willing to assist each other in areas of critical and emerging technologies, plus both the countries share similar views on the Indo-Pacific. Additionally, these countries also have a very close political and defence relationship. By manufacturing air-independent propulsion submarines and high thrust aircraft engines in India, India, and France are also expected to move ahead on PM Narendra Modi’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat project apart from mapping the Indian Ocean bed.
Germany has had good trade relations with both Russia and China but the Ukraine war and the new chancellor have made Bonn think about the country’s national security and Germany has started re-evaluating its stance with Moscow. While Narendra Modi will be pushing for closer bilateral relations with Nordic countries, including the host Denmark, investment, technologies, and trade will be up on the agenda list. In the past, the Nordic countries did not have closer ties with India but now they are willing to mend their relationships.
