Virat Kohli Hits Nets, Could Join the Squad for the Decisive Cape Town Test

Date:

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli on Sunday made his return to the nets as India began to for the 3rd Test in Cape Town. The head coach oversaw Virat’s performance as he hit the nets in India’s first training session at Newlands in Cape Town.

Kohli’s return to the nets prior to the match could be an indication of his return to the decisive Test after missing the 2nd test in Johannesburg due to the back spasm. At wanderers, KL Rahul led India in the absence of Kohli. However, India lost the match by 7-wickets failing to defend 24o runs on the final day of the Test.

“We are here at the picturesque Cape Town. #TeamIndia begins preparations for the 3rd Test,” the BCCI tweeted along with a picture of the Indian camp as the visiting players hit the ground at the magnificent Newlands Stadium.

“It’s GO time here in Cape Town. #TeamIndia all set and prepping for the series decider” read BCCI’s another Twitter post featuring pictures of Virat Kohli batting at the nets.

Riding on the dominating performance of the Protea captain Dean Elger, South Africa levelled the series (1-1) and grabbed their first-ever win against India at the venue. India is now desperate to stun SA in Cape Town to register their maiden series win in SA.

Kohli was spotted comfortably playing his signature cover drives and coach Dravid said that he should be fine after a couple of training sessions ahead of the decisive Test. If Kohli is declared fit for the match, Hanuma Vihari will have to make way for the captain.

“Virat Kohli should be fine from all accounts, he should be fine. He has had the opportunity to run around a little bit, he has had the opportunity to test it a little bit,” Dravid had said during the virtual press conference after the 2nd Test.

“Hopefully with a couple of net sessions in Cape Town, he should be good to go. Everything I am hearing and just having a chat with him, he should be good to go in four days time.”

Notably, Ishant Sharma is likely to join the Indian squad in the team’s pace department in place of Mohammed Siraj as he has suffered a hamstring injury during the Wanderer Test.
