The Road to Manchester Test Becomes Clear as the Indian Team Tests Covid19 Negative

After testing negative in the second RT-PCR test on Thursday, the Indian team will be playing the Manchester Test following the previous schedule. The future of the match came under question as the Indian players had to go into isolation on the eve of the 5th Test against England.

On Thursday morning, Indian assistant physio Yogesh Parmar returned with a Covid19 positive report, leading to the uncertainties around the last test match in the 5-match Test series on English soil. India had taken an unbeatable 2-1 lead in the ongoing series after the historic victory at The Oval on Monday.

Last week, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Arun Bhagat and fielding coach R Sridhar tested positive for Covid in London. Yogesh became the 4th member of the support staff whose test results came positive.

The Indian team even had to cancel their last practice session on Thursday before the series finale as Parmar came in close contact with many Indian players. In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) were engaged in conversation regarding the future course of action.

Talking about the entire situation, former Indian captain and present BCCI president Sourav Ganguly commented, “We don’t know if the match will happen at the moment. Hopefully, we can get some game,” at the same time, Jos Butler, who returned to the English squad after the paternity leave, sounded hopeful as he said, “At present, we’re preparing to play tomorrow – fingers crossed the game will go ahead. We don’t know too much to be honest. It would be naive to speculate too much on stuff I don’t know about”

However, as the test results came negative for the entire Indian team, India is all set to play the last Test from Friday, September 10 as per the schedule.
