MI vs RR: Mumbai Gunned Down Royals in a Massive 8-wickets Victory

Must read

On Tuesday, Mumbai Indians (MI) managed to boost their chances to qualify for the play-offs after bashing Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 8-wickets. Owing to this historic victory in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League 2021 in Sharjah, the defending champions also received a huge boost in their Net Run Rate as well.

Thanks to the fiery bowling performances by Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Neesham and Jasprit Bumrah, MI restricted Rajasthan to a total of 90 runs for 9 in 20 overs. Nathan bagged 4 wickets for only 14 runs while Neesham picked up 3 for 12. Evin Lewis was the top scorer for RR with his 24 off 19 balls.

The 91-run target was not even close to enough to put a decent challenge before the MI batsmen who kept their dominance from the very beginning of the second innings. The opening stand between skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan made the way to a massive victory quite clear for MI. Rohit Sharma scored 22 runs off 13 balls while Krishan, who replaced Quinton de Kock in this match, roared back to form with an outstanding half-century in just 25 balls. He remained unbeaten with 5 fours and 3 sixes and helped MI chase down the target in just 8.2 overs.

Having been dropped in the last two matches, it was a great comeback for the MI opener and wicket-keeper. He thanked captain Rohit Sharma and team management for keeping faith in him. “It’s nice to be back opening and getting runs for the team and helping win by a big margin. Feeling really good, was much needed for our team to get momentum,” Krishan said after the match.

Meanwhile, RR skipper Sanju Samson blamed the Sharjah pitch for the disappointing performance of their batsmen. He said, “It was a bit of a challenging wicket to bat on, it was tougher in the first innings. Coming from Abu Dhabi, playing in Sharjah was a massive difference. Can’t blame the batsmen a lot, but it was tough to bat in the first innings. Abu Dhabi had one of the best batting wickets, so switching to Sharjah was tough.”

With this massive victory, MI jumped to the 5th spot in the points table from their former 7th spot. The 5-time champions are looking forward to staying consistent with their performance in the upcoming final group-stage match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
