MI faces their ninth loss of the season after being defeated by KKR

Must read

In the 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Mumbai Indians collapsed after being bowled out at 113 runs in 17.3 overs by Kolkata Knight Riders. MI had a goal of 166 runs and they had a decent start with 83/3 but the team began to fall when Tim David lost his wicket. Thus the Kolkata Knight Riders won by 52 runs and their hopes of making it to the playoffs increased whereas Mumbai Indians suffered their ninth loss of the season. However, the night still belonged to Jasprit Bumrah who got five-wicket.

In the match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and their captain Rohit Sharma chose to field. At the starting of MI’s fielding, it may have seemed that Bumrah was yet again on a mediocre night but then he turned around the game and helped MI hold a reasonable score. After bowling in the fourth over he again came back in the 15th over and took Andre Russell and Nitish Rana’s wicket. At that point in time, KKR had a 140/5 score and was still in the hunt to score 200 run mark. Bumrah was magnificent, bowling four runs and two wickets in his second over, a triple-wicket maiden in his third, and only one in his final over. Unfortunately, his team was not able to perform as well as him.

KKR made five adjustments to their lineup and eventually went back to their original eleven based on skills and ability. Venkatesh Iyer scored 43 off 24 and helped his side get a fast start. In the powerplay, KKR scored 64 runs, with Ajinkya Rahane adding only 10. Despite Shreyas Iyer falling for six and Rahane getting 25 off 24, Nitish Rana blasted 43 off 26 to put KKR in a position to attack. Rinku Singh made 23 out of 19 to help KKR surpass 160 points.

Whereas for MI Tilak Varma made six while Rohit Sharma only got two. As the pressure rose, Ramandeep Singh (12 off 16) and Tim David (13 off 9) both struggled to get going. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan continued to attack before succumbing to 51 of 43. When Kishan was dismissed in the 15th over, MI was reduced to 100 for 5, and it fell to out-of-form Kieron Pollard to save the team. Cummins finished with 4-0-22-3 after dismissing Kishan, Daniel Sams, and M Ashwin, while Russell had two wickets. Varun Chakravarthy returned to the side and dismissed David, while there were also three run-outs in MI’s innings. Narine was once again on form, squeezing MI with figures of 4-9-21-0.
