Rohit Sharma-led Indian team finally managed to grab an unbeatable series lead 2-0 over West Indies after winning the 2nd ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Prasidh Krishna and Suryakumar Yadav produced clinical performances to help India register a 44-run series-winning victory in the match.

Chasing a total of 238 runs, West Indies had to face a tough time from the very beginning after Krishna sent opener Brandon King (18 off 20 balls) and batter Darren Bravo (1 off 3 balls) back to the pavilion in successive overs. He also picked up the wicket of Nicholas Pooran (9 off 13 balls) in the 20th over and Kemar Roach (0 off 6 balls) in the 46th over to complete his 4-wicket haul in the match.

Only Caribbean batter Shamarh Brooks tried to revive the match for West Indies with his 44-runs innings before losing his wicket to Deepak Hooda. Towards the end of the match, Odean Smith played a wonderful knock of 24 runs but could not stop West Indies from getting all out for 196 in 46 overs.

Earlier in the match, the West Indies bowlers were able to restrict India to a total of 237 riding on some impressive spells. Following the Indian top-order collapse, Suryakumar Yadav joined hands with vice-captain KL Rahul to produce a 91-run stand. Together, they rescued India from muddy water of 43 for 3. Rahul scored 49 runs off 48 balls including 4 boundaries and 2 over boundaries while Yadav played a knock of 64 runs off 83 balls. Moreover, Deepak Hooda’s 29 off 25 deliveries were crucial in pushing the score to 237.

“Winning the series is a good feeling without a doubt,” Captain Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation ceremony.”There were some challenges that we had to face today. That partnership between KL and Surya. That is the maturity we need. We got to a respectable total, which was important.”

“With the ball we were outstanding. The entire unit came together and performed together as a unit. It is important for these guys to bat in that kind of situation. That is when you can judge them,” he added.

Both the teams will now meet on Friday at the same venue to play the concluding match of the 3-match series.
