Former U.S. President Donald Trump says he won’t be rejoining Twitter even if his account is restored following the social media platform’s purchase by Elon Musk. He saID “Twitter’s become very boring. They’ve gotten rid of a lot of good voices on Twitter, a lot of their conservative voices”. Instead of using the bird app, he will only use his own social media platform “TRUTH Social”. Trump added “This is a platform for my voice. TRUTH is a platform for my voice and for my supporters”. But I want everybody to come over to TRUTH — conservatives, liberals, whatever.”
Trump was also quoted saying “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH. I hope Elon makes improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH”. The announcement came just moments after Musk won a takeover bid to take Twitter private for $44 billion at $54.20 a share. Twitter would become a private company on completion of the deal. It would require shareholder and regulatory approval.
After Elon Musk took over Twitter, Republicans asked him to release the suspended Twitter Account of Trump. Republicans tweeted “Hey, @elonmusk it’s a great week to free @realDonaldTrump”. On January 6, 2021, Trump was suspended from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat following the Capitol Hill riot. At that time, the former President had roughly 89 million followers on Twitter alone.
Musk’s purchase of Twitter ends a weeklong controversy. He kicked off when he disclosed a large stake in the company. Just after that, the company said that he would join the board, only for Musk to reverse course on that plan after several days. Then, he offered to buy the company at $54.20 per share, his “best and final.” That offer valued Twitter at about $43 billion. Musk’s relationship with Twitter dates back a long history, starting in 2009 when he just joined the social media platform. 5 years back, in 2017, he tweeted his interest in buying Twitter.
Just after Elon’s stake in Twitter was made public, he had been tweeting his ideas for the platform. Musk’s 84 million Twitter followers make him one of the most popular figures on the platform. But with being the most popular figure he has also faced major backlash – and in some cases legal action – for his activity online.
