Bullets were fired at Asaduddin Owaisi car while he was returning to Delhi from UP campaign

On Thursday evening, while Owaisi was returning to Delhi following a door-to-door campaign for his party’s candidate in Meerut’s Kithore assembly constituency, shots were fired at his car. 

Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of the AIMIM and a Lok Sabha MP, was allegedly shot near Hapur while returning to Delhi after attending election-related events in Uttar Pradesh. 

According to a senior police officer, no injuries were reported, and one of the attackers was arrested.

Senior police officers and Hapur district magistrate Anuj Singh hurried to the scene to examine the toll plaza’s CCTV footage. According to Singh, one of the attackers was arrested and turned over to the police by bystanders at the toll plaza.

Owaisi tweeted about the incident. “Two persons fired at my vehicle while I was returning to Delhi after campaigning. My vehicle got punctured and I left in another car,” he wrote.

“We were at the toll gate and had slowed down when we suddenly heard three-to-four rounds of gunshots. My car also got some dents and a tyre got punctured,” he later told reporters.

“I urge the EC to ensure an independent probe into the incident. It must be known who is behind this incident. It’s also an appeal to the Modi government and the Yogi government,” he added.

Hapur Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhuker said “We are reviewing the CCTV footage from the toll plaza, as the incident occurred there.” He told reporters that police teams have been deployed and that individuals involved in the incident will be arrested soon. 

Meanwhile, senior district authorities, including those from the administration and the police, arrived at the scene of the shooting, where several AIMIM activists and supporters had begun congregating following the gunfight. 

Sachin (25), a resident of Badlapur in Greater Noida was arrested, according to Love Kumar, joint commissioner of police, Gautam Budhh Nagar. He responded, “We have asked the police team to verify his credentials.”

The suspect is from Badlapur, according to Harish Chander, deputy commissioner of police He said Hapur police is probing the matter and he would not further prefer to not comment on the matter.
