Tumbad is the finest horror movie of all time that came out of India in many years. It leaves the usual low-cost thrills and time-worn to weave an original story with a strong concept. Shot under the care of 3 amazing directors Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve, and Anand Gandhi. Based on an ancient myth in the village of Maharashtra, Tumbbad is a testament to what can be achieved in the horror genre in Bollywood. The plot unwinds the tale of an unnamed Goddess of Prosperity who gave birth to 160 million immortal creators. The film artfully blends elements of mythology with horror, by depicting to what extent human greed can go, and is one of the most worthy Indian films that deserved an Oscar nomination.

 

  1. Andhadun

 Andhadun is a Comedy thriller drama filled with twists, Once you watch the film, you will see every single object in the frame serves a purpose. This film is directed by Sriram Raghavan. The plot of the film is a blind pianist (Ayushman Khurana) In this laugh-a-minute spectacle, a blind pianist (Ayushmann Khurrana) has to decipher what to do when he unintentionally becomes private about information about a murder. Not only is the storyline filled to the projections with clever twists and laughable moments, but even the regular conversations are also packed with wordplay. Andhadhun was awarded close attention, which makes it exactly the kind of film Bollywood needs right now.

 

  1. Udaan 

Udaan, an adulthood drama directed by Vikramaditya Motwane’s directorial shows the relationship between a problematic son and his abusive father. The storyline starts with Rohan (Rajat Barmecha) who got expelled from boarding school, he is trained to return to Jamshedpur and live with his father, Bhairav Singh character played by Ronit Roy, and a younger half-brother, Arjun. Rohan aspires to become a writer but unfortunately, his father forces him to work part-time at his metalworking factory while pursuing engineering. With time, Rohan’s patience runs dry, and he realises to break free from this confined existence to accomplish his dreams.

 

  1. Parched 

The film is directed by Leena Yadav in 2016 portrays an unapologetic analysis against stereotypes, old fashioned norms, and oppressions in the society on womens. Parched puts the lights on the tragic lives of four ordinary women hailing in a remote village in Gujarat. Burdened by the devils of patriarchy, Tannishtha Chatterjee Rani, Radhika Apta as Lajjo, Janki played by Lehar Khan, and Surveen Chawla as Bijli they bond over their respective hardships. Their interplay acts as a means for the audience to understand the consequences of these widely prevailing social evils that in the end forces the ladies to take a stand for their own.

 

  1. The Lunchbox

2013 released film directed by Ritesh Batra is a story of an error in lunch deliveries by a Mumbai dabbawala which unfortunately sparks an unexpected friendship between the characters Ila Singh played by Nimrat Kaur and a widower, Saajan Fernandes played by Irrfan Khan, in this wholehearted and cosy drama. Ila intends to bring romance back into her marriage by making delicious meals for her husband, but when Saajan is the one who accidentally receives it, these two start conversation through letters and food. Although, when the moment comes for them to finally meet, destiny has other plans.
