Review: All you need to know about Oppo Reno 7

Must read

The Oppo Reno has been the business front runner contribution in India for a few years now, ever since it ceased to inaugurate new copies in the find series. The formula for Reno Pro models has been forthright so far slim bodies with curved displays and very fast charging. Oppo has a distinct ability to change things up with design. This new front runner model also has reform camera sensors, and stereo speakers, making it a justify satisfactory upgrade.

It is only available in one form in India, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and is worth Rs. 39,999, which is lower than the price than the Reno 6 Pro, This is available in two colours, Starlight Black and Startrails Blue.

Instead of the curved display and shiny frame you might have anticipated, the 7 Pro takes a design indication from last year’s Reno 6 with a similar flattened aluminium frame and a flat display. The bezels around the display are also very slim, and along with the small hole-punch cutout, the Oppo Reno 7 Pro looks noticeable from the forepart. Oppo says it has used a new laser process to create hundreds of oblique micro-etches, which are clear at definite angles. The finish feels great and doesn’t captivate imprints. The camera module also has an engrossing manifold design, and around it, we now have a light strip that glows when you get alerts and when the phone is charging. You can’t change the colour of this strip, but you can select which apps and affairs trigger it. It doesn’t have a headphone jack and it doesn’t support expanded storage. It comes with stereo speakers, has a 6.5 inch AMOLED panel and has Gorilla 5 scratch protection. They don’t have skimmed on bundled accessories. It ships with a 65W charger along with a USB cable and SIM eject tool. The phone is sleek and lightweight.

It has a new SoC, the Dimensity is of 1200 Max with two special optimisations AI Deblur, which is said to improve the quality of selfies, and AI-PQ, which induce an HDR like effect in usual videos. There doesn’t seem to be any performance benefit with this ‘Max’ version of the SoC, so for all other tasks, it should be business as usual. The 12GB RAM can be expanded by assigning 7GB of storage, if you use the RAM expansion feature in ColorOS. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and the usual suite of satellite navigation systems. The phone has a 4,500mAh battery with support for up to 65W fast charging, using Oppo’s proprietary SuperVOOC charger.

Battery life was quite impressive too and the HD video ran for nearly 22 hours. The cameras have been updated from the previous models. Selfie camera is about 32 megapixels, which now uses a new Sony IMX709 sensor. It doesn’t have autofocus, the aperture is not very wide at f/2.4, and video recording is limited to 1080p. The second upgrade is to the primary rear camera, which now has a Sony IMX766 sensor. This phone also has an 8-megapixel ultra-wide and a 2-megapixel macro camera. Oppo is installing all its weight behind special features in the camera app, which include AI Highlight Video and Portrait filter.
