India continues to create history with its second gold medal in a single day at Tokyo Paralympics by Sumit Antil. He overshadowed his own world record in the Men’s Javelin F46 category owing to his throw of 68.55m and bagged India a prestigious gold medal. Just over an hour ago, another Indian star Avani Lekhara obtained a gold medal in the Women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 final.

Day 6 of the Tokyo Paralympics was indeed a historic day for India as India won five medals in a day including two gold, two silver, and a bronze. With this, the overall medal tally reached 7 within the Day 6 of this notable event. The previous best-ever medal tally was 4 for India at a Paralympics event.

The 19-year-old Avani Lekhara became the first woman to bad a gold medal at any Paralympics or Olympics game. She wrote history by winning the gold medal and equalling the world record simultaneously.

On the other hand,  Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver in the Men’s Discus Throw F56 event followed by Devendra Jhajharia who bagged silver in the Men’s Javelin F46 event. In the same Javelin throwing event, Sundar Singh Gurjar managed to earn the bronze medal.

The list of prospective Javelin throwers does not end here as Sandeep Chaudhary went on finishing at the fourth position in the same event as Sumit Antil. Both Sumit Antil and Sandeep Chaudhary are now getting ready to rule the Men’s Javelin F64 event.

Before Monday, India had only 3 medals in its bag. However, on this day, discus thrower Vinod Kumar lost his bronze in the F52 category as the Paralympics panel found him ineligible in disability classification reassessment. India also missed out on the chance of winning another bronze as Mahavir Swaroop Unhalkar finished fourth in the Men’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event.
