Also, the Indian Hockey team created history by winning a medal in the Olympics after 40 years of wait. Also, it was the first time India qualified for the Hockey Semifinal.
Post the prolific wins in the Tokyo Olympics 2021, there is a report according to Instagram and Facebook insights which states that India has left behind the likes of USA and Brazil to engage and cheer the most about the Olympics online. Neeraj Chopra became the second most mentioned athlete on FB, after Simone Biles, and the most mentioned athlete on Instagram after his gold. Indian athletes were also among the most followed people online recently. If there was a gold medal for this, India would have surely had it.
In other news, Tokyo Paralympics are also going to begin from August 24, 2021 and India is all set to send its largest ever contingent to aim for glory at the Paralympics with 593 events across 22 disciplines to be hosted across 21 venues. 54 para-athletes will compete in 9 sporting disciplines. Rio Paralympics gold medalist, Mariyappan Thangavelu will be India’s flag bearer in the opening ceremony.
