SRH vs RR: SRH Ends Losing Streak by Gunning Down RR by 8-wickets

Must read

After RCB, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also ended their five-match losing streak on Monday by beating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 8 wickets. With the impressive knocks played by Jason Roy and Kane Williamson, SRH managed to gun down the 166-runs target quite comfortably.

The RR players were quite impactful with their batting performance.  Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson played a wonderful knock, scoring 82 off 57 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal (36) and Mahipal Lomror (29 not out) also helped RR to reach the total of 165 in 20 overs.

However, the underwhelming bowling performance by the RR bowlers made them fail to defend their score. The chase of victory for SRH ended in only 18.3 overs owing to half-centuries by both debutant Jason (60 off 42) and skipper Williamson (51 not out). Young Abhishek Sharma (21 not out) also contributed some runs in partnership with Williamson.

SRH captain Williamson seemed quite hopeful with his young teammates in the post-match presentation ceremony. He remarked, “Good feeling. We can say the performance was improved. There was clarity in roles too and it’s nice to be back to winning ways. Good to be on the right side. Want to build on this, to see the younger players take their opportunity and enjoy cricket.”

On the other hand, the destructive knock by Samson went in vain with their 8-wicket defeat in the 40th match of IPL 2021 in Dubai. He demanded improvement in the batting and bowling performance from his fellow teammates. He said, “We wanted to put on a respectable total to fight back. But we got what we had targeted after the timeout. We need to work on bowling and batting. We need to be at our best every ball and execute well. We need to lift our standards.”

However, with his outstanding knock of 82-runs, Samson completed 3000 runs in the IPL and topped the list of Orange Cap contenders in the current tournament, leaving behind DC opener Shikhar Dhawan.
