Scotland Seals Spot in Super 12 by Securing an 8-wicket Win vs Oman

Must read

On Thursday, Scotland registered an impressive 8-wicket win against Oman to reach the Super 12 stage in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the UAE. With this victory in Al Amerat, Scotland managed to continue their unbeaten stint and topped Group B with six points.

In the first innings of the match, Scotland produced an outstanding bowling outcome and stopped Oman at a subpar total of 122. Host Oman was required to grab a 79-run win to enter the main tournament but they crumbled in front of Scottish bowlers Josh Davey, Safyaan Sharif and Michael Leask. Davey took 3 wickets for only 25 runs in 4 overs while Sharif and Leask picked up 2 wickets each.

The 123-run chase proved to be a cakewalk for the Scottish team following captain Kyle Coetzer’s knock of 41 runs off 28 balls. The 48-run third-wicket partnership between Matthew Cross and Richie Berrington was enough to secure Scotland a smooth victory. Berrington finished the match with a six and remained unbeaten at 31.

It is for the first time in Scotland’s cricketing history that the nation will play in the main event of the ICC T20 World Cup. After the match, captain Coetzer said, “The following back home has been immense. We have been through thick and thin in the last few years and guys have put in a lot of hard work to keep developing their game and the coaching staff has done an excellent job as well.”

He sounded quite confident after their successful venture in the qualifiers. “As far as I’m aware, we are going into a slightly tougher team and there’s no reason to fear. It’s gonna be an exciting group, we will go into every game full of hope and will give our best,” he added.

Earlier, Scotland beat both Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea in the group round matches to finish at the top position from the group. Scotland will now play alongside teams like India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan and a yet-to-be-decided second-placed team from Group A in Group 2 of the Super 12s.

Notably, Bangladesh became the second team to qualify for Super 12 from Group B after defeating PNG by 84 runs. Both Oman and PNG are now out of the tournament.
