Pork and Beef Ban In the Indian Camp, BCCI Treasurer Denies the Reports on Team India’s New Dietary Plan

Ahead of the Kanpur Test, team India has lately created quite a buzz among the netizens not because of their cricket but due to their new diet plan. According to the new dietary plan, the Indian players will only be served Halal meat for the first Test against New Zealand starting from November 25.

According to the reports, it was claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has proposed that no pork or beef should enter the Indian cricket team’s menu in any form. The catering requirements read, “No pork and beef whatsoever in any form and variety. All meat must be Halal.”

Such a reported directive raised questions over the internet and the netizens took Twitter to express their opinions on the matter. As a result, the hashtag #BCCI_Promotes_Halal became top trending on the microblogging site. People started debating over the reported ban and the BCCI had to face quite a bit of criticism for this move.

However, the BCCI treasurer on Tuesday denied all the reports regarding BCCI’s involvement in deciding the dietary regime of the players. He made it clear that BCCI has no role to play in deciding players’ dietary requirements and has not put out any such directive to the support staff.

Addressing the issue, he commented, “The BCCI has not given any direction to any player or team staff on what to eat and what not to eat. All these rumours are baseless.”

This diet plan has never been discussed and will not be enforced. The board doesn’t advise anyone on what to eat and what not to eat. They are free to choose their own food. Whether they want to be vegetarian, it’s their choice, whether they want to be vegan, it’s their choice, whether they want to be non-vegetarian, it’s their choice,” he added.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand team management listed both red and white meat as a part of their dietary regime. “The food should contain moderate amounts of carbohydrate and protein and lower amounts of fat, to ensure these athletes get all the energy and nutrients required for their training and games. The prepared food must have plenty of flavors and be as fresh and natural as possible,” the Black Caps diet plan reads.

Notably, India will play its first Test against New Zealand after the World Test Championship final earlier this year in this 2-match Test series. Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team in the first Test in Kanpur while Virat Kohli will join the team as captain in the second Test in Mumbai starting from November 3.
