On Tuesday, Pakistan continued their winning run in the T20 World Cup by registering their second consecutive win in the Super 12 stage against New Zealand. Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 5-wickets in Sharjah and went to the top of their group points table with 4 points in 2 matches.

From the very beginning of the match, Pakistani bowlers outshined Kiwis with their extraordinary bowling attack restricting them to s subpar total of 134. The 27-year old Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf emerged as the star of the match as he bagged 4 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs including the crucial wicket of Martin Guptill in the 6th over. In fact, in the 18th over he gave only 3 runs in exchange for two wickets of Devon Conway and Glenn Philips.

However, the 135-run chase was not quite comfortable for the Pakistani squad following a rapid fall of wickets in the middle overs. New Zealand was looking to gain control of the match until Shoib Malik and Asif Ali began took the charge of the match with their excellent batsmanship. Ali spoiled hope for the Kiwis scoring 27 off 12 balls not out which includes 3 sixes will Malik also remained unbeaten at 26 off 20 balls.

The match, no doubt, turned out to be a disappointing venture for the New Zealand team who earlier pulled themselves out of the Pakistan tour in the last month. In the post-match presentation ceremony, captain Kane Williamson said, “It was very disappointing at the end. Unfortunately, we couldn’t nail things towards the back end but we were up against a very good side in Pakistan and congratulations to them.”

“That was obviously a very unfortunate, disappointing situation for Pakistani cricket fans and the cricketers, a decision that was outside of the players’ control. But all the guys were there looking forward to that series to start, and unfortunately, it didn’t happen. So it was very disappointing for all involved,” he added when asked about New Zealand’s pull-out.

New Zealand will now face India, who had also lost their first match against Pakistan, in their second Super 12 match on Sunday. The match in Dubai will be a crucial one for both teams.
