Pakistan Hammers India by 10-wickets, Registers First-ever World Cup Win vs India

Must read

On Sunday, Pakistan finally broke free of their losing streak against India in the T20 World Cup by gunning them down by 10-wickets. The high-voltage match in Dubai turned out to be a nightmare for India after their historic defeat.

Invited to bat first, India encountered a tough time in the face of excellent bowling by Pakistani bowler Shaheen Afridi. Afridi bagged 3 vital wickets which include Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. However, captain Kohli (57 off 49 balls) scored his 10th T20 World Cup half-century and helped the team to finish with a decent total of 151.

Pakistan continued to dominate the game with their bats making the Indian bowling attack look ordinary. Pakistani openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan chased down 151-run targets single-handedly in 17.5 overs. Babar remained unbeaten with a mind-blowing knock of 68 runs off 52 balls while his opening partner scored a 55-ball 79 not out.

After their first-ever win against India in a World Cup, Captain Azam in a candid speech urged his teammates not to get over-excited and lose focus from the game. “We can enjoy tomorrow but we should start focusing again because we have a match the day after tomorrow. This match is gone now. Our focus is one. What is that? We have to win the World Cup,” he added.
Meanwhile, Indian skipper Kohli applauded Pakistani players for such a brilliant performance but made it clear that it was just the beginning for India. When asked about the team combination, he said, “We are certainly not a team that presses the panic button. It’s just the start of the tournament and not the end of the tournament. So it’s very important to stay composed and just understand our strengths.”

“There definitely will be a chat around what we want to do in the next game. But it’s certainly not a stage where we think ‘oh, what are we going to do moving forward?’. It is just the first game of the tournament and every team knows that,” he added.

After his historic defeat against arch-rivals, India is now looking forward to making a comeback in the upcoming match vs New Zealand on Sunday.
