Nikhat Zareen waved the Tiranga in Istanbul

 On May 19, 2022, Nikhat Zareen scripted history in the world boxing women’s championship in Istanbul. She won the gold medal in flyweight (52 )kg with a facile 5-0 victory over Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas. She played stupefyingly in the finals against her competitor and won gold. Nikhat became the fifth Indian woman who won gold before gold medalist Zareen Mary Kom in 2002, 2005,2006,2008,2018, and 2018 won the title.

 

25-year-old Zareen was in great form during the tournament; she used her playing strategies very well. She defeats her fast, strong competitor and covers the court amazingly. The second round was so tough that Jitpong Jutamas won by the score of 3-2but in the final round, Zareen changed the whole game and won the match by 5-0.

 

Before this tournament, the semifinal gold medalist defeated Brazil’s Caroline De Almeida by a score of 5-0. After four years of gold entering India in 2018, MC Mary Com won the gold title. Apart from Zareen’s performance, Manisha Moun (57 Flyweight) and Praveen Hooda (63 flyweights) participated for the first time in the world championship and won the bronze medal in the same competition.

 

Three years ago, a boxing tournament was organized in Russia in which Indian boxers won 1 silver and 3 bronze medals. From 11 tournaments, India won 9 gold and 8 silver, and 19 bronze medals. In this competition, Russia has a total of 60 medals, and China has a total of 50. 

 

Everyone is celebrating the happiness of winning gold in the boxing Championship by Nikhat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a tweet to Congratulate her ” Our boxers have made us proud! Congratulations to @nikhat _zareen for a fantastic Gold medal win at the women’s World Boxing Championship. I also congratulate Manisha Moun and Praveen Hooda for their bronze medals in the same competition”.
