KKR vs SRH: KKR Remains in the Play-offs Race After Defecting SRH by 6-wickets

Must read

On Sunday Kolkata Knight Riders managed to keep alive their hope to play the play-offs by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6-wickets. With their commendable all-round performance, KKR grabbed 2-points in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League and the 4th position in the points table leaving behind Punjab, Rajasthan and Mumbai.

In the first half of the match, KKR bowlers Tim Southee, Varun Chakravarthy, Shivam Mavi and Sakib Al Hasan restricted SRH to 115 of 8 in 20 overs. Southee, Chakravarthy and Mavi picked up 2 wickets each while Sakib took 1 off 26.

Nevertheless, SRH put in a good fight while defending their total but it was not enough. The KKR batsmen chased down the 116-runs target in 19.4 overs. The 55-run partnership between Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana made the run chase easier for the team KKR. Shubman was the top scorer in the match in Dubai with his wonderful 57 off 51 balls. In fact, it was his 8th IPL half-century.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik stuck to his role of match finisher for KKR and finished the match in the 19th over of the match. Karthik hit 3 boundaries to score 18 off 12 balls. During the post-match press meet, he said, “I thought it was a real good game of cricket. At half-time, I knew it would be a tricky chase because the pitch was difficult.”

KKR captain Eoin Morgan lauded his team’s all-round performance in Dubai’s slow pitch. He said, “The wicket played slower than we thought than the wicket two nights ago. It swings early in the powerplay in these conditions, but it was sluggish. We needed to bowl and field well and we did.”

“We are focussed on playing good cricket and we’ve done that in the last three weeks. The game plan has had a good impact in the dressing room and guys are putting their hands up. We have done well to adapt to the slow conditions and I’m happy with that,” Morgan added.

Notably, in this match vs SRH, Dinesh Karthik became the 7th Indian player and 11th player overall to score 4000 runs in the IPL.
