India vs Pakistan: Kapil Dev Shares His Opinion on the Upcoming Clash

Must read

Amidst growing tension around the upcoming India vs Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE, legendary Indian Cricketer Kapil Dev had pointed out the importance of the match for youngsters. He emphasises that playing and performing well against Pakistan will only benefit the cricketing careers of young players.

India is all set to face its arch-rival Pakistan on Sunday, October 24 in their opening match at the ongoing ICC tournament. However, the match had gained quite a bit of negative political attention as BJP and AAP politicians called for cancellation following the recent killings of Kashmiri civilians by the terrorists.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh asked for reconsideration in this tense situation. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, AAP MLA Atishi said, “We see people being attacked in Kashmir. I’m sure that even the Prime Minister agrees with the stand of not conducting the match (IND v PAK) as when in Opposition he used to ask that when state-sponsored terrorism is taking place in India, why should we play cricket with them?”

However, Kapil Dev spoke in favour of the match considering its positive impact on both the players and the fans. He commented, “Players get recognition by doing well in IND-PAK matches. If a youngster comes out and performs well, then he gets global recognition. Whereas, if a senior player does not do well, then it can hurt his reputation.”

Earlier, badminton legend Prakash Padukone also shared a similar take on the scheduled India-Pakistan face-off. He said, “I personally feel sports should not be mixed with politics and it should go ahead. That is my personal opinion. Whether it happens or not, I am no authority, I am nobody to comment.”

Notably, the BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla has made it clear that India cannot refuse to play against a team in an ICC tournament.

Virat Kohli-led India is all pumped up to start their journey in the T20 World Cup on Sunday against Pakistan. India has already registered two wins against England and Australia in the two warm-up matches in Dubai and is ready to encounter the arch-rivals next.
