Himachal Pradesh Scripts History by Hammering Tamil Nadu in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Finals

Himachal Pradesh created history on Sunday after beating Dinesh Karthik-led Tamil Nadu in the finals of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 to clinch their maiden domestic trophy. Riding on Shubham Arora’s blazing century, Himachal Pradesh stunned the five-times champion Tamil Nadu at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Chasing a total of 315, Youngster Shubham Arora scripted his maiden List A century to help Himachal Pradesh win their first-ever domestic title. The 24-year old wicketkeeper-batter scored an unbeaten 136 off 131 balls with 13 boundaries and one over-boundary.

Earlier in the match, Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthik along with Baba Indrajith put in a good fight against the Himachal Pradesh bowler. Together they posted a 202-run partnership for the fifth wicket allowing them to reach a significant total of 314.

Karthik pulled an important 116 off 103 balls with the help of 8 fours and 7 sixes. Shahrukh Khan (42 off 21 balls) and Vijay Shankar (22 off 16 balls) also provided the required support.

In the second innings, opener Prashant Chopra (21 off 26 balls) and Shubham Arora gave the team the desired start before Shuham and Amit Kumar (74 off 79 balls) produced a 148-run match-winning partnership for the fourth wicket.

Himachal Pradesh was reeling at 299/4 in 47.3 overs when the match was suspended due to the bad light at 5 p.m. Later, Himachal Pradesh was declared the winner following the VJD method. 

“Credit to the management and support staff, they backed me through the tournament. They allowed me to play my natural game,” Shubham Arora, who won Player of the Match, said.

Himachal skipper Rishi Dhawan said, “It was long pending and we’ve finally done it. Really happy. We had played a few games here, so we knew that the pitch is good and the outfield is very quick, so if we batted deep, we could chase it down.”

After this eye-catching performance, Shubham is hoping for an IPL break. With the auctions happening in February, it will not be surprising if an IPL franchise scout for the Delhi boy.
