What is Fit India Freedom Run?

The first ‘Fit India Run’ took place in 2020 from August 15 to October 2. Individuals and organizers were given a certificate of participation after registering their runs on the government’s Fit India webpage during the campaign. According to a press release, more than 5 crore people took part in 2020, covering around 18 crore kilometers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the campaign on National Sports Day, August 29, 2019, to encourage people to make physical fitness a way of life. The movement tries to alter people’s habits from a sedentary existence to a more physically active way of life in order to live a healthier lifestyle.

The government is encouraging individuals to incorporate fitness activities such as running and sports into their daily life in order to avoid obesity, lethargy, tension, anxiety, and diseases. The government has also urged residents to make a commitment to engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day.

The campaign also has a “Fitness Pledge” that reads, “I promise to myself that I will devote time for physical activity and sports every day and I will encourage my family members and neighbors to be physically fit and make India a fit nation.”
