Australia finally completed its World Cup set after winning their maiden T20 World Cup on Sunday at Dubai International Cricket stadium. In the final of the ICC event, Mitchell Marsh-led Australia gunned down New Zealand by 8-wickets to seal their World Cup triumph.

Riding on the skipper Aaron Finch extraordinary toss luck, Australia was looking confident from the very beginning of the match. Invited to bat first, New Zealand was late to start their attack as after the first 10 overs, they managed to score only 57 for 1. Despite Kane Williamson’s (85 off 48) deserving batting efforts, the Kiwis ended up with a total of 172 which was 20 runs below par in Dubai’s flat pitch.

In the later half of the match, the Australian assault led by David Warner and Mitchell Marsh left the New Zealand bowlers quite helpless in the big match. Warner paved the way for one of the most-ambitious run chases in the history of the T2o WC while Marsh followed that path like an adept partner.

Warner made his 21st T20I half-century and ended up with a 38-ball 53. He was named the Player of the Tournament because of his contribution to a total of 289 runs for Australia in the tournament. On the other hand, Mitchell Marsh, the son of Geoff Marsh and the brother of Shaun Marsh, continued his family legacy of cricket with his responsible performance.

Marsh and Maxwell’s 50-run 3rd wicket partnership lead Australia to accomplish their 173-run chase with 7 balls to spare. Marsh hit six 4s and four 6s to reach his 50-ball 77 making him the star of the match.

After this match-winning performance, Marsh shared with the press how he ended up with the 3rd position in the Australian batting squad. “Coaching staff came up to me in the WI and said you’ll bat three for this tournament. I jumped at the opportunity. Not a whole lot of thinking that goes into that (first ball for six),” he informed.

“Just wanted to go out there and have a presence. Big Marcus Stoinis always talks about having a presence. I wanted to have a presence, be in the contest, go out there and play my game. It’s unbelievable,” he further added.

Meanwhile, Warner, who also played an integral role in Australia’s 2015 World Cup triumph, said, “Definitely up there with 2015. Being part of the World Cup final against England a decade ago definitely hurt. These guys are a great bunch of guys. Great support staff, great team, great support back home. Just wanted to put on a great spectacle for everyone.”

It was definitely heartbreaking for New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson under whose leadership the Kiwis showcased a commanding performance throughout their WC campaign. However, he remained gracious in defeat and congratulated Australia for this deserving victory.
