West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee is slated to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the National Capital today. Banerjee is likely to raise the issue of alleged violence against her party leaders in the poll-bound Tripura.

West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee, on Monday, left for Delhi from Kolkata. She is on a four-day visit to the National Capital and is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Banerjee is likely to raise a plethora of issues with the Prime Minister. Issues pertaining to the Border Security Force (BSF) and the development of the state are likely to come up during discussions alongside the alleged Tripura Violence against her party leaders.

This also comes at a time when 17 MPs of the All India Trinamool Congress, on Monday, reached the North Block at 11:30 am to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The delegation was told he was not available for a meeting and they staged a sit-down protest for nearly about four hours. Finally, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah met the delegation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, before leaving for Delhi on Monday, said the Tripura issue ‘cannot remain confined to Tripura’. ‘It will be raised in Delhi, Mumbai, and elsewhere,’ she added. Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee too reached Delhi on Monday after meeting party leaders in Agartala. TMC national spokesperson Saket Gokhale wrote to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairperson Arun Mishra for a fact-finding committee to be sent to Tripura like it was done for Bengal.

Banerjee and her government have also been critical of the Centre’s new notification of extending the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) from 15 km to 50 km in states having an international border. West Bengal Chief Minister is also likely to rake up the issue during her meet with the PM. All India Trinamool Congress (AITC/TMC) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating the attacks in Tripura and alleged that the police were sheltering the preparations from the ruling party and Mamata Banerjee is likely to talk about this issue as well.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, in the presence of Mamata Banerjee, the former JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Pavan Varma and Congress leader Kirti Azad and Ashok Tanwar joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) in New Delhi. Banerjee had visited Delhi in July this year. It was her first visit after Trinamool Congress returned to power in the Bengal Assembly polls. During her last visit too, she had met PM Modi.
