The White House announced on Monday that US President Joe Biden has tested negative for the coronavirus illness (Covid-19). Biden was tested after a White House staff member became ill earlier in the day on Monday. On Sunday, the unnamed employee began having Covid-19 symptoms, and his test results came back positive on Monday. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement on Monday that the staffer was in close proximity to President Biden aboard Air Force One for roughly half an hour last Friday.

According to Psaki, the staffer was fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and had received a booster injection. The White House press secretary said that the staffer had tested negative before boarding the plane. Psaki also claimed that President Joe Biden, who is fully vaccinated and has received the booster dosage, tested negative for Covid-19 on Sunday with a regular fast test, and that Biden tested negative again after undergoing a PCR test.

“He’ll (Joe Biden) be checked for infection again on Wednesday,” Psaki said in a statement on Monday, “but will continue with his daily program without quarantining, following CDC advice for vaccinated people.” Another White House worker tested positive for Covid-19 this month after accompanying Biden to international conferences in Europe in October. Biden, on the other hand, was found to be negative.  The worst-affected country by the coronavirus illness pandemic is the United States, which has seen 52,059,667 cases and 828,836 deaths so far. It is now fighting the Omicron strain, which is responsible for 73 percent of all new infections in the country. An unvaccinated man from Texas died of Omicron on Monday, becoming the first known death in the United States.
