On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually launch the Ujjwala 2.0 scheme in the Mahoba area of Uttar Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region.

According to a government official, ten participants of the scheme will receive certificates via the internet. Modi will also meet with five people who benefited from the first phase of the cooking gas hookup scheme. On hand will be Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

“Ujjwala 2.0 would benefit such poor who were left out of the first phase of the Ujjwala scheme,” the spokesman said. In 2016, Modi launched the scheme’s first phase in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the spokesman, the scheme benefited approximately 14.7 million people in Uttar Pradesh.

On the occasion of World Biofuel Day, Adityanath and Puri will also open a biofuel exhibition at Mahoba on Tuesday. In Muzaffarnagar, they will also open a compressed biogas facility.

Provision for an additional one crore LPG connections under the PMUY plan was announced in the Union budget for the financial year 2021-22. These one crore extra PMUY connections (under Ujjwala 2.0) are intended to provide deposit-free LPG connections to low-income families who were not eligible for PMUY in its previous phase.

In addition to a deposit-free LPG connection, Ujjwala 2.0 will cover the cost of the first refill and hotplate for the beneficiaries.

In addition, there will be very little paperwork involved in the enrollment process. Migrants will not be required to produce ration cards or address proof under Ujjwala 2.0. A self-declaration will suffice as both a “family declaration” and a “proof of address.”

Ujjwala 2.0 will contribute to the Prime Minister’s goal of universal LPG access.
