In a rapid move, the Taliban, on Sunday, seized the Capital of Afghanistan, Kabul.
Late at night, they even took over the Presidential Palace. With this, the terrorist outfit has completely taken over the Country.
Taliban has entered Kabul after nearly two decades since their ouster in the wake of 9/11; they first seized the capital in 1996. With this, reports of the Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani leaving the country have surfaced. He is said to have left the country and is seeking asylum in Tajikistan. Later, on Sunday night, the head of the Afghan National Reconciliation Council had confirmed Ghani’s departure. “The former president of Afghanistan left the country in this difficult situation and that God should hold him accountable,” Abdullah said.
As the news of the Taliban entering Kabul broke out, the people in the city panicked. There were long traffic jams and people rushed to markets and groceries stores to stock up on essentials, withdrawing their savings from their bank account.
The US had sent 6,000 troops to the airport to fly out embassy personnel as well as Afghans who assisted the United States as interpreters or in other support roles. Former US President, Donald Trump attacking Joe Biden asked for his resignation over the issue. The former is a statement that said, “It is time for Joe Biden to resign in disgrace for what he has allowed happening to Afghanistan.”
Meanwhile, these recent developments raise concerns for India as Afghanistan is a long-cherished friend of India and India has invested a lot in the Infrastructural development in Afghanistan. Also, it offers Pakistan a potential base for starting a proxy war against India.
As the situation in Afghanistan worsens, people look towards India for help.
Taliban is reported to have taken over Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport and commercial flights have been canceled. The last Air India commercial flight with 126 passengers on board has landed in New Delhi. Meanwhile, the Air India flight has been rescheduled for Kabul from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm due to the deteriorating situation in the Capital. “GoI is closely monitoring the situation and has put in place contingency plans to evacuate its officials and citizens,” a government official told media persons.
An official part of the militant group said the Taliban will soon declare the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ from the Presidential Palace. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar is likely to be declared as Afghanistan’s New President, he is the co-founder of the terror outfit. Condemning the recent development, more than 60 nations released a joint statement Sunday night citing what they call “the deteriorating security situation” in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the UN Security Council will on Monday hold a meeting on the situation in Afghanistan.
