Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, stated on Monday that Lord Krishna appears to him in his dreams every night, telling him that he will form the government and establish “Ram Rajya” in Uttar Pradesh following the state’s impending assembly elections.

During a function to induct BJP’s Bahraich MLA Madhuri Verma into his party, former UP chief minister Mr Yadav made the remark, albeit in a lighter mood.

Ms Verma, a Kurmi by caste, is a second-term MLA. She also served on the Legislative Council of the Philippines from 2010 to 2012. Mr Yadav said that he is on his way to create government in Uttar Pradesh after the induction of sitting BJP MLA from the Nanpara assembly seat in Bahraich district.

“The way to Ram Rajya is through the path of samajwad (socialism). The day samajwad is established, the “Ram Rajya” will be set up in the state,” the SP president said.

He further added, “Lord Sri Krishna comes to my dreams every night to tell me that our government is coming up (in UP).” He further alleged that Yogi Adityanath’s leadership in the state has “failed.”

Mr Yadav referred to the infamous practise of some students’ guardians in several states, notably UP and Bihar, descending on their test centres to enable their wards resort to unfair means, alluding to a galaxy of BJP officials running the poll campaign in UP.

After labelling Yogi Adityanath as a “failed” Chief Minister, Mr Yadav compared the BJP leaders’ electoral efforts to students’ guardians’ efforts to help a “failed” Mr Adityanath win the UP elections.

In response to the BJP’s claim that his party has some criminals and gangsters, Mr Yadav retorted, “It is the allegation of a party which made a man facing several heinous criminal cases the UP chief minister.”

“I wonder if the BJP has bought a washing machine to cleanse all its criminals and mafia elements,” he wryly said.

“There were many veteran leaders in the BJP who strengthened the party for years with their blood and sweat. Even they say at times that it was they who sweated it out for the party but don’t know where did Adityanath come from and was forced upon them,” Mr Yadav said.

In response to a question about Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement that he will run in the upcoming assembly elections from anywhere his party chooses, Mr Yadav said that no matter where he runs, he will be grilled by the people about his “failed” promises, such as tripling farmers’ income.

In response to a question about whether he will run for his own seat in the assembly elections, Mr Yadav said his party will decide.

Referring to China changing the names of some villages in Arunachal Pradesh, the SP chief quipped, “Our neighbouring country has learnt something from our chief minister. It has changed the names of our villages. The was a trend started by our chief minister but China too has learnt it from him.”

On senior IAS officer Durga Shankar Mishra being made the UP’s new chief secretary, the SP chief said, “Our baba mukhyamantri was sleeping and suddenly his chief secretary was changed and he did not know. He himself says I sleep till 12 noon.”

Mr Yadav claimed that the BJP has received the most shock from his electoral pledge of offering 300 units of free electricity to household consumers if the SP is elected to power.

He claimed the pledge was made because the SP had started various electricity projects during its last term, from 2012 to 2017, that the BJP administration had never finished.

If he is elected, he promises that such projects will be completed and that all residential consumers will receive 300 free units of electricity.
