Gandhi Jayanti 2021: Sneek Peek into how Indians are celebrating Bapu’s Birthday

The truth and nonviolence ideas of Mahatma Gandhi continue to guide Indians decades after his death. World leaders such as Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr. were inspired by him. As India commemorates the great man’s 152nd birthday today, civic society and the government have planned events and programmes to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation.

On Gandhi Jayanti this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with Pani Samitis as part of the government’s Jal Jeevan Mission from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. In honour of Bapu’s vision of Gram Swaraj, the government will hold gramme sabhas around the country. It’s a word coined by Mahatma Gandhi with the goal of transforming every village into a self-sufficient, autonomous entity with all necessary amenities.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has decided to begin a month-long Clean India campaign to eliminate single-use plastic from the country. Mahatma Gandhi placed a high value on sanitation and made it a component of the Gandhian way of life. The government plans to gather 75 lakh kg of plastic waste to realize its ambition.

Several Indian embassies throughout the world have planned festivities to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth. The Indian Embassy in Japan is hosting cultural events and will also be releasing a film including speeches by renowned Gandhians.

On October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi was born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore bestowed the title Mahatma to him.
