According to the Union health ministry, India recorded 62,480 cases and 1,587 fatalities owing to the coronavirus illness (Covid-19) on Friday, bringing the total number of cases and deaths to 29,762,793 and 383,490, respectively. In the previous 24 hours, about 89,000 people have been found, bringing the total number of people found to 28,580,647. Meanwhile, active cases have decreased to 798,656, accounting for 2.78 per cent of the total caseload.

The number of cases on Friday is 4,728 fewer than on Thursday when 67,208 persons tested positive for the virus. Since Wednesday, when 62,224 cases were registered, the country has seen a little uptick in its daily tally. On Tuesday, 60,471 persons were found to be Covid-19 positive, the lowest daily increase in over 70 days. Meanwhile, Friday’s death toll was the lowest since April 18 of this year, when 1,501 individuals died from Covid-19.

So far, 387,167,696 samples have been tested for Covid-19, with 1,929,476 samples evaluated in the last 24 hours, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

According to the WHO-AIIMS study, Covid-19 was found in 74.7 per cent of the population in Delhi, including both children and adults. This is a much higher seroprevalence than the Delhi government’s research from January 1, which found that 56.1 per cent of people had antibodies to the viral illness.

The unlocking process in the national capital has begun, and various Covid-19-related limitations have been lifted, including the reopening of restaurants, hairdressers, retail malls, and metro stations. However, as the government grants more and more relaxations, there is a strong risk that infections would rise again.

Meanwhile, India has given out 268,960,399 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to qualified beneficiaries, with approximately 3.26 million doses given out in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministry. The first dose inoculated a total of 218,873,616 people, whereas the second dose inoculated 50,086,783 people.
