Covid Live Updates: For the first time in 132 days (March 16), India recorded fewer than 30,000 new coronavirus cases, with 29,689 new infections recorded in the previous 24 hours. This brought the overall number of active cases in the country to 3,98,100, or 1.27 per cent of all cases. According to the latest information from the Union Health Ministry’s Covid bulletin, the active caseload has fallen below 4 lakh for the first time in 124 days. The daily rate of positive was 1.73 per cent.
The number of new cases registered in the last 24 hours is roughly 10,000 lower than the number of samples that tested positive on Monday, when there were 39,361 new cases, accounting for 1.31 per cent of active cases.
In the last 24 hours, the virus claimed the lives of 415 people, while 42,363 people were freed from hospitals. This brought the total number of fatalities to 4,21,382 and the total number of recoveries to 3,06,21,469. On Monday, there were 35,968 discharges and 416 fatalities, respectively.
The health ministry claimed that 66 lakh doses of vaccine against Covid-19 were delivered during the day, bringing the total number of inoculations to 44.19 crores as part of the nationwide vaccination drive.
Since the start of the third phase of the immunisation programme, the ministry has announced that over 14 lakh beneficiaries in the age bracket 18-44 years have received their first dose and over 65 lakh have received their second dose across states/UTs.
