International Yoga Day: PM Modi emphasizes on practicing Yoga

On the occasion of 7th International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation by saying that Yoga will be a ray of hope as the world fights the Covid-19. 

The Prime Minister also launched a Yoga app that will be available worldwide. “In collaboration with WHO, India has taken another important step. We will be launching the mYoga app which will have yoga training videos in different languages for people across the world. This will help us achieve our ‘One World, One Health’ motto,” he added.

This year, the theme is ‘Yoga For Wellness’. Elaborating on it, PM Modi wrote on Twitter: “The theme this year is ‘Yoga For Wellness’, which focuses on practicing Yoga for physical and mental wellbeing.”

International Yoga Day is celebrated every year to highlight the importance of practicing yoga and inculcating it in daily lives. The theme for this year was ‘wellness for all’. 

The Yoga for wellness this year has encouraged people even more to perform yoga. I pray that every country, region, and people stay healthy, the PM said. 

The Ministry of Culture is also slated to celebrate the International Day of Yoga at 75 cultural heritage locations across the country. Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel, will perform yoga at Delhi’s Red Fort on June 21, at 7 am. Other senior officials will conduct yoga camps at various monuments and forts, including the Agra Fort, Shanti Stupa in Ladakh, Ellora Caves in Maharashtra and Nalanda in Bihar. Considering the pandemic, the number of participants for the sessions has been restricted to 20 at each site.
