The number of cases has plateaued and decreased in the last week, according to the Center. It also mentioned that the positivity rate has dropped below 20%.

The positivity rate – the proportion of samples that return positive for Covid-19 – fell from 21.9 percent last week to 19.8 percent in the week of May 8-14, according to a press conference held by the Union health ministry on Saturday. A decreasing positivity rate indicates that the spread of infection is slowing.

According to government statistics, the number of active cases has decreased from around 40 lakh to around 36-37 lakh. Officials from the Ministry of Health called it a “significant accomplishment” because there were more recoveries and the case fatality rate remained constant.

On Saturday, recoveries outnumbered new cases for the fourth time in the last five days, according to India’s daily Covid-19. The recovery rate in the United States is currently at 83.83 percent.

The strict curbs announced by various state governments and the inoculation of more citizens in the ongoing vaccination campaign are two major reasons for the decline in cases of Covid-19. According to Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal, 18.04 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far.

This number includes 13.74 crore people over 45, 1.62 crore healthcare staff, 2.25 crore frontline workers, and 42.59 lakh people aged 18 to 44 who have received their first dose.

The government is now concentrating its efforts on states with a large number of open cases. According to data from the health ministry, 11 states have more than one lakh active cases, while 17 have less than 50,000.

High-caseload states such as Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh have registered a decrease in the number of active cases over the last week, while the situation in Tamil Nadu remains a source of concern due to an increase in the number of active cases over the same time span.

According to government statistics, active cases accounted for 17.13 percent of the overall caseload on May 3, but have since dropped to 15.1%, with recovered cases accounting for 83.8 percent. While according to the Union health ministry, the national mortality rate is currently 1.09 percent.
