Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a virtual meeting with Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. Modi said it is a source of enormous delight that every grain given to the state reaches the beneficiaries, as he launched a statewide awareness campaign on the food security scheme.

The goal of the awareness campaign is to ensure that no one is left out of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’s advantages. “The way Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana is being implemented in the state defines the new Uttar Pradesh,” he said adding that foodgrains meant for the needy were looted during past regimes.

According to Modi, UP has been regarded through a political lens for many years, and its chances of playing a critical role in the country’s growth have never been discussed. “But state’s ‘growth engine’ potential has been promoted only in the last few years,” he added.

He stated that the government is aiming to bring water to every home via pipelines after giving dwellings, toilets, power, and gas.

“Our government is trying to provide benefits of schemes to people cutting across all sections of society,” said PM Modi.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, was also present. The Prime Minister met with beneficiaries in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Hamirpur, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Bahraich, Shahjahanpur, Kaushambi, and Agra at select fair pricing stores.

According to an official announcement, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana has provided free rations to nearly 15 crore people in the state. Foodgrains have been distributed to participants of the scheme by over 80,000 fair pricing stores in Uttar Pradesh, according to the statement. All beneficiaries covered by the National Food Security Act receive an additional 5 kg of food grain under PMGKAY.

Modi stated no one should believe rumours and began his talk with the recipients by pushing them to encourage more people to get vaccinated against the coronavirus (Covid-19) sickness.

During the conversation, he also chastised the opposition for disrupting Parliament’s ongoing Monsoon session. “No matter how much some people (Opposition) try to disrupt Parliament proceedings and stall the development of the country, our country cannot become hostage to such selfishness and politics,” Modi said.
