The daily caseload of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in India has dropped again, with 120,529 cases reported in the last 24 hours, according to statistics from the Union ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW), which was updated at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The countrywide infection number has now increased to 28,694,879, according to the data.
During the same time period, 3380 people died as a result of Covid-19, bringing the total death toll and death rate to 344,082 and 1.19 per cent, respectively, according to the MoHFW dashboard. In the previous 24 hours, a total of 197,849 patients were discharged, with a total of 26,79,5549 recoveries, bringing the recovery rate to 93.38 per cent. Meanwhile, active cases have dropped to 1,555,248, down from 80,745 in the previous bulletin, and account for 5.42 per cent of the total caseload.
The newest positive instances in India came from 2,084,421 samples tested for the viral disease, according to the government-run Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Saturday morning; 2,075,428 tests were conducted in the previous 24-hour period. According to ICMR data, the total number of samples analysed has now reached 361,174,142.
On Friday, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) gave the Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) permission to manufacture the Russian-made Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine. In India, the SII is already producing the Oxford University-AstraZeneca shot known as “Covishield,” while Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech created Covaxin.
