Covid Live Updates: Although Maharashtra has eased some of the lockup restrictions, the state is still keeping a close eye on the daily Covid caseload. The district and municipal corporations have been told not to let their guard down and to follow the lockdown and Covid-19 measures exactly.
Maharashtra reported 6,126 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases to 6,327,194 and the death toll to 133,410, with 195 new deaths. There are 72,810 current cases in the state, with Pune leading the way with 15,216, Thane with 5,984, and Mumbai with 5,034. Around 447,681 people are quarantined at home, while 2,928 are quarantined in institutions.
On Wednesday, the daily test positivity percentage was 2.89 per cent, with 6,126 of 211,678 tests being certified positive. The number of positive reports as a percentage of all infection tests is known as the test positivity rate.
As part of its Mission Begin Again initiative, the state administration has begun easing restrictions that have been in place for the past four months. The relaxations took effect on Tuesday, with the exception of 11 districts with a high rate of positive cases. The health agency said on Tuesday that the positive rate in ten districts is higher than the state norm of 3.53 per cent. Satara (7.56%), Sindhudurg (6.73%), Sangli (6.37%), Pune (6.31%), Kolhapur (6.01%), and Ahmednagar (6.01%) have the highest weekly positive rates. The majority of these districts have a high growth rate of over 0.30 per cent, compared to 0.10 per cent for the state.
The state government is concerned about an increase in daily caseload due to crowding in public spaces as a result of the relaxations.
Meanwhile, 359 new cases and nine deaths were reported in Mumbai, bringing the total number of illnesses to 736,016 and the death toll to 15,920. On Wednesday, further instances were reported in Pune (1,014), Sangli (783), Kolhapur (412), and Ratnagiri (212).
