BCCI suspends IPL 2021 after several players test positive for COVID-19

Date:

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, went to a sudden stop on Tuesday, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chose to suspend the season halfway through the class stage. The decision was taken minutes after it was found that two players — Wriddhiman Saha of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Amit Mishra of Delhi Capitals — had been tested positive for COVID-19.

The BCCI explained that it had collectively chosen to “defer” the flow period of the IPL with quick impact. The assertion said, “The BCCI would not settle on the wellbeing of the players, support staff and different members associated with getting sorted out the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the security, wellbeing and prosperity of the relative multitude of partners as a top priority.”

On late Monday and early Tuesday, IPL officials and BCCI officials attempted to work out a deal to transfer the competition to two stadiums in Mumbai. Despite the fact that the second new disease was verified, the IPL Governing Council meeting in progress decided to put an end to the opposition.

It’s doubtful that the remaining 31 rounds of the competition will be played anytime soon. The BCCI could struggle to find a window for rescheduling the IPL due to the global times table being pushed until the end of the year.

In any case, a BCCI official, inclining toward secrecy, said that endeavors will be made to “make a window following the T20 World Cup last in November”.

India has planned to have South Africa for a full arrangement after the T20 World Cup in October-November at home. It will be intriguing to check whether the arrangement is reduced to clear a path for the IPL. The IPL suspension has marked India’s odds of facilitating the 16-country T20 World Cup.

With the COVID-19 pandemic unleashing devastation over the nation, the BCCI-named competition chief Dhiraj Malhotra has affirmed the United Arab Emirates as a backup setting to put together the event. With the biosecure air pocket for the IPL having been penetrated across various areas, the worldwide cricket and the overseeing bodies are probably not going to consent to make a trip to India for the occasion.
