After reporting 4,205 Covid-19 deaths the day before, the highest number since the pandemic began in India in 2020, India recorded 4,120 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 2,58,317 deaths and 3,62,727 new infections, bringing the total number of active cases to 37,10,525.

The country’s overall Covid-19 tally now stands at 23,703,665, according to a health ministry bulletin, with 3,52,181 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours.

The number of new cases registered in the first 24 hours of Thursday is up from 3,48,421 on Wednesday. Despite a small decrease in the number of tests, an increase in new infections has been identified. In the last 24 hours, a total of 18,64,594 samples were screened. A total of 19,83,804 samples were examined on May 11th.

After two days of decline, India’s active case rose again on Thursday, as the number of daily infections exceeded the number of daily recoveries for the first time. India’s total active caseload fell to 37,04,099 on Wednesday but rose to 37,10,525 on Thursday, a rise of 6,426.

With the largest increase in the number of cases and deaths — exacerbated by a lack of medical services — the country is facing the most difficult war against the pandemic. However, the Centre’s data shows that there are signs of optimism, as daily recoveries have surpassed daily cases in the last few days, indicating that the curve is flattening.

Despite the fact that Maharashtra has the most daily infections, Karnataka currently has the most active Covid-19 cases. Maharashtra recorded 46,781 new Covid-19 cases and 58,805 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total active Covid-19 cases to 5,46,129.

On the other hand, Karnataka has 5,92,182 active cases. The state reported 39,998 new infections and 34,752 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting on Wednesday to assess the country’s supply of oxygen and medicines. The PM was informed that the oxygen supply is now three times what it was during the first wave high. On Wednesday, the Centre approved a budget of 322.5 crores from the PM-CARES fund to purchase 1,50,000 Oxycare System units.
