1,73,790 fresh cases received in India, lowest in 45 days

India recorded 1,73,790 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, raising the overall number of cases to 27.7 million, according to the Union health ministry, as the country recorded less than 200,000 cases for the third time this month.

The number of new cases of viral infection registered on Saturday is the lowest in 45 days in India.

At least 3,617 people have died from coronavirus disease in the last 24 hours, according to data updated at 8 a.m. According to the health ministry, 322,512 individuals have died as a result of the virus across the country.

The country is on the downswing of the second wave of Covid-19, officials declared on Friday, after experiencing its worst-ever health catastrophe in independent India’s history. Daily cases and deaths have started to decline.

“We are on a downswing of the second wave of Covid-19 and believe that it will be sustained even when restrictions are significantly relaxed,” the ministry said.
