On its app, Zomato has added a home-style mini-menu feature. On Tuesday, Chief Executive Deepinder Goyal revealed the new feature on Twitter, saying that a separate tab on the app would include a list of food from partner restaurants for people in poor health. The fresh, carefully selected menus include khichdi, soups, rajma chawal, and other Indian classics.

Deepinder tweeted, “ Over the last few days, one of the most-requested features on Zomato has been a selection of home-style food for people battling poor health. We just launched home-style mini-menus along with thousands of restaurants across the country. #RestaurantsAgainstCOVID.”

As Covid cases continue to rise in India, Zomato has added a second function to assist people dealing with health issues. Priority deliveries for Covid-19 emergencies were introduced by Zomato last week.

During these hard times, young people are struggling a lot while managing their parent’s health and cooking. So, Deepinder came up with an idea and said, “For everyone whose parents are struggling with health, cannot cook, or have no help – please order for them, or even better, teach them how to use the Zomato app,” Goyal said.

For the time being, the function will only be available in 85 per cent of Zomato’s order amount. He further added, “We’re going all out to bring more of these mini menus to current and new locations.”

Restaurants were among the hardest hit companies during the pandemic, and the second wave has imposed new restrictions. Zomato’s latest programme is also aimed at assisting restaurants in regaining their footing.

Talking to a Zomato spokesperson, he said that “All of our efforts have our partners in mind. It will also help to strengthen the relationship between our restaurant partners and their clients, as they will go out of their way to prepare special home-style meals for everyone in the family.”

Swiggy the competitor Homely runs a cloud kitchen brand that serves home-style food in cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru. Due to losses in the early months of the pandemic, the company scaled back its cloud kitchen business last year. It also has a Fitness Hub where you can find nutritious food.
