Cricketer Harpreet Singh Bhatia charged with forgery case by Chhattisgarh police

A forgery case has been registered on Thursday against Harpreet Singh Bhatia, the captain of Chhattisgarh’s Ranji Trophy Team got charged by the Chattisgarh police. He is accused of using fake documents in 2014 with the motive of seeking a government job. The Vidhan Sabha police had allegedly filed the complaint against the 30-year-old Bhatia, a native of Balod district, for allegedly using a fake mark sheet to get a job as an auditor/accountant in the Indian Audit Accounts Department Office of the Principal Accountant General Audit. 

 

The initial information report was filed on a complaint by the office of Chhattisgarh’s principal accountant general, according to Raipur Superintendent of Police (SP)  Prashant Agarwal (audit). The case was filed under the Indian Penal Code’s section 420 (cheating) 

and 467 (forgery). Mr. Prashant gave a statement telling the same he said, “A case was registered against Harpreet Singh Bhatia 31, a resident of Balod district, for allegedly getting the job of auditor/accountant in the Indian Audit Accounts Department Office of the Principal Accountant General Audit with the help of a bogus mark sheet. The matter is under investigation.”

 

The FIR stated that the cricketer allegedly supplied documents relating to his B. Com degree, which he claimed was awarded by the Bundelkhand University in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh in 2014. When  Bhatia responded to an advertisement and applied for an author’s position. After initial document verification, Bhatia was shortlisted for the job based on his performance in the field testing. Now, the university has informed the department that it has no record of Bhatia’s mark sheet.

 

In 2010, Bhatia competed in the U-19 World Cup for India. In the Indian Premier League, he also played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2010. Then in 2011, the Pune Warriors signed him, and he also played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017.
