Congress is starting its Chintan Shivir ahead of 2024 polls in the country. The leading issues for the party are leadership , internal reforms  among others. Ahead of the 2024 polls in the country, Congress will initiate Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir in Udaipur from May 13. Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surejwala  said “ The Congress President has decided to convene a Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir of the Indian National Congress in Udaipur, Rajasthan on May 13, 14 and 15 May 2022.” About 400 Congress members from all over the country will participate in the shivir to deliberate on issues congress is facing.

The Press Release focussed to resolve the outstanding problems  of Congress such as Welfare and Wellbeing of Scheduled Castes and Tribes, Minorities, Backward Classes, Kisan , Khet mazdoors, Religious and Linguistic Minorities, Women, Social Justice and Empowerment. Apart from them, organisational restructuring and strengthening  will also be deliberated upon.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi constituted an Empowered Action Group in order to address the political challenges of the party. Surejwala said “ the group is constituted to

restructure, re -think and re- calibrate the party’s strategies in the state elections.”

A section of the party also debated about the clarity on leadership issues and questioned about the internal election system of the party. Rumours are also coming up whether more than six crore party members will directly vote and decide the new party chief by September this year. Sources from the central election authority dismissed the idea and said it would need to change the constitution of the party and could not be done in short notice.

Political analysts see this development as important after electoral losses of the party with heavy defection a common occurrence in the party .In fact the party is facing rebellion from the G 20 group who are demanding internal reforms through a letter to the party president Sonia Gandhi.

A section of the Congress Party are pushing for Mr. Gandhi to be the full time party chief but Mr. Gandhi has not given any clarity on his intention to be a candidate for the party chief . After the shivir, Party members said that they  will come up with a strong strategy for the state elections.
