PM Modi on Thursday visited Assam to launch several development projects and join the ‘Peace, Unity, and Development rally’ taking place in Dhipu, Karbi. During his trip to the Northeast, Modi spoke with the people of Assam and announced the removal of AFSPA from many districts of Assam. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act was incorporated in 1958, is an act enforced by the Indian Parliament that grants special powers to the Indian Armed forces to maintain decorum in some disturbing areas of the country. Recently AFSPA has been removed from 23 districts of Assam and some other North-Eastern states.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the act was abolished from 15 police station areas of Nagaland, 15 police stations in Manipur, and about 23 districts entirely plus one district of Assam at the beginning of April as well. The Government has entered into peace deals with Assam and Tripura, with the existence of appropriate law and order. From ‘Sbka Sath Sbka Vikas’ motto, the Government is all set to spread the benefits of a ‘double-engine’ government. “The double-engine government works wherever it is in the spirit of sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas and sabka sadav. Today this resolve has been reinforced again on this land of Karbi Anglong. Work is going on at a fast pace to bring down the agreement that was reached for the lasting peace and rapid development of Assam,” the PM mentioned.

He then spoke about how the authorities have laid the groundwork for many healthcare and education-driven projects in Assam’s Karbi district and admired the abolition of AFSPA from 23 districts of Assam and other towns in the Northeast. “Today when someone visits northeast and witnesses the rapid development, they also feel proud. We have understood the problems the people of Assam face from the perspective of the common man as a member of your family,” PM Narendra Modi said in his speech.

According to the sources, the Government already has several plans for development (Vikas) in the Northeast region. Along with plans to build more than 2600 Amrit Sarovar, empowering the area with several resources is also decided upon. All eyes were on the grand welcome for the Honorable PM, who was greeted with utmost pleasure after reaching Assam, for his rally. PM Modi was accompanied by the Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for the ‘Peace, Unity, and Development Rally’ at Dhipu. Modi also laid the foundation for a veterinary college in Dhipu, which is situated alongside the agricultural college in Kolonga.
