After Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Bulldozer in Delhi; MCD begins anti-encroachment drive

Must read

It seems Bulldozer has become quite popular in India as after Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, now it will be used in Delhi by the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) to start the anti-encroachment drive in Violence-hit Jahangirpuri. The Delhi Police have beefed up security in the area as about 9 Bulldozers arrive in the area. The anti-encroachment drive is being undertaken a day after Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta wrote to BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to identify illegal building and constructions in the violence-hit Jahangirpuri. He also asked the NDMC to demolish those structures using bulldozers.

As per sources in the MCD, the anti-encroachment drive will be a two-day drive. Further, for ensuring a smooth and an efficient drive, the NDMC has deployed security personnels in an adequate manner. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said that police deployment was requested to avoid any mishap during the anti-encroachment drive in Jahangirpuri.

The matter has also reached the apex court of India as a petition to stop the anti-encroachment drive has been filed in the Supreme Court, terming the drive as ‘unconstitutional’. Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave said, “Completely unauthorised unconstitutional demolition ordered in Jahangirpuri area.” The Supreme Court has ordered a status-quo on the demolition drive that was being carried out by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Reacting to the Apex Court’s decision, Raja Iqbal Singh, the Mayor of the NDMC stated “We will follow the SC order and take action accordingly. Earlier, the Delhi Police conducted a flag march in Jahangirpuri to maintain peace and public order. Clashes between two communities were reported on the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti in the north-west area of the National Capital. Reports of stone pelting were also reported after which the Delhi Police arrested few people and conducted security drills to ensure public order.
