BCCI Publishes IPL 2022 Mega Auction List

Top Indian players like R Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami along with Pat Cummings, Trent Boult, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Kagiso Rabada and David Warner will be part of the marquee set at the IPL mega auction 2022.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the shortlist of the players who will be a part of the grand IPL 2022 auction scheduled to be held on February 12 & 13 in Bangalore. The 15th season of India’s flagship tournament will feature 10 teams and a total of 590 players have been selected to go under the hammer. 

The board had published the original list of 1,214 players last month only and the final auction list was a pruned version of the original list based on the interest shown by the franchises. Among the 590 shortlisted players, 28 are placed as capped players and 355 are uncapped players while 7 belong to Associate Nations.

The highest reserve price for this edition of the IPL auction is INR 2 crores and as many as 48 players have placed themselves within this bracket. Senior Indian players such as  Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane have registered under the highest bracket. Overseas players like Pat Cummings, Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada have also listed themselves with a base price of INR 2 crores.

Youngsters Ishan Kishan, Devdutt Padikal, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, last season’s top wicket-taker Harshal Patel, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and fast bowler Shardul Thakur are also in the top bracket and the franchises are likely to indulge in a bidding war for these rising stars.

A total of 102 players are in the top 3 price brackets with 20 players in the auction list with a reserve price of Rs 1.5 crore while 34 are in the list of the reserve price of Rs 1 crore.

Punjab Kings have the highest number of 23 slots available for the auction while Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians have 21 vacancies each. Other teams in the auction have 22 slots each.

Punjab will also enter the auction with the highest purse value of INR 72 crores while Delhi Capitals has the lowest – 47.5 crores. 

Notably, big names like  Chris Gayle and Ben Stokes have made themselves unavailable for the IPL 2022 auction.
