A portion of the newly constructed road developed cracks as BJP MLA of Sadar constituency Suchi Choudhary smashed a coconut on the road to mark its inauguration in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnore district. It was a part of the proposed 7.5-km road constructed by the irrigation department in Kheda Azizpura village of UP’s Bijnore.

The entire incident was upsetting for the BJP MLA who, along with her supporters, sat on dharna. She scolded the officials for the subpar construction work when a team arrived on the spot to collect the samples of the material used in the construction of the road.

In fact, an enraged Choudhary lodged a complaint against officials of the irrigation department with district magistrate Umesh Mishra. The DM has formed a committee to investigate the charges of the MLA in this issue.

She told the media, “When I got there and tried to break a coconut, the coconut did not break. Bits of the road came off.”

The budget sanctioned for the construction of the entire road project was ₹1.16 crores and the irrigation department had been given the charge a 700-meter portion of it. On Thursday evening, the Bijnor MLA Choudhary had gone to inaugurate the seven-km-long road near Kheda village.

Mishra informed the media that the executive engineer of the irrigation department had given a request letter to form a committee for an investigation into the matter. “I have formed a committee for probe into the case,” he added.

In a video circulating in social media, the MLA has been seen raising questions over the quality of the construction work while accusing the irrigation department’s executive engineer and junior engineer of connivance with the contractor for the work simultaneously.

Demanding a thorough investigation, she remarked, “While I was questioning the contractor for substandard construction, the executive engineer and junior Engineer were trying to pacify me more than the contractor.”
