Scotland Gunned Down Bangladesh by 6 runs in the Thriller Campaign Opener

Must read

On Sunday night, Scotland started their T20 World Cup campaign with an impressive 6-run win against Bangladesh. Standing on the magnificent all-round performance by Chris Greaves, Scotland managed to stop Bangladesh at 134 for 7 in the second match from Group B.

In the first innings of the match, Bangladesh bowlers dominated the Scottish batsmen with their outstanding bowling performance. The match was looking to go in favour of Bangladesh as, after 16.5 overs into the match, Scotland managed to score only 100 for 6 wickets. However, the 50-run partnership at the 7th wicket between Chris Greaves and Mark Watt helped them to reach a decent total of 141 runs. Greaves shined with bat and scored 45 runs off 28 balls.

The 141-run chase looked comfortable for the team Bangladesh initially but Bangladesh batters failed to perform well leading to their upsetting defeat. Greaves was fiery with the ball as well as he picked 2 wickets off 19 runs in 3 overs. Brad Wheal grabbed 3 wickets while Watt and Josh Davey picked 1 wicket each. As a result of the exceptional bowling attack from Scottish players, Bangladesh ended their innings at 134 for 7 wickets.

The Player of the match Chris Greaves said after the match, We were in a tough situation obviously and it doesn’t always go that way. It was just to rebuild the innings at that stage and see where we could go from there. I was happy to be that person.”

Meanwhile, Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah looked concerned with his team’s disappointing batting outcome despite having experienced names like Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in the squad. “Our batting is a concern. We have to bat better. We have to play aggressive cricket, regardless of the situation. We have a deep batting line-up, with Mohammad Saifuddin at No. 9. We may need to think over some changes tomorrow,” remarked Mahmudullah.

This thrilling win against Bangladesh was Scotland’s first-ever win against a Test-playing nation in a major ICC event. On the other hand, Bangladesh is now set to face Oman on Tuesday after failing to directly enter the Super 10 stage of the ongoing tournament in the UAE.
