Indian Women’s Team to Play Its Debutant Day-night Test Against Australia

Indian Women

Indian Women’s cricket team is all set to face the Australian in its first-ever day-night Test match beginning on Thursday. The match will be a one-off game at Carrara Oval Queensland. Considering their limited or no prior experience with the pink ball, this match is going to be quite a new experience for the entire Indian team.

The team only had two days of practice sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for this Test against Australia. On the other hand, team Australia played their only day-night Test back in November 2017 and they, too, had little practice for this match. However, their commendable pace attack will be something to look forward to in the greenish pitch at the Metricon Stadium.

The pink ball has gained a reputation for skidding more than the traditional red ball and, also, moves significantly under lights. Indian skipper Mithali Raj has even expressed her curiosity to see what the pink ball does, especially in the twilight period.

She said, “To be very honest. I don’t have the experience of playing with a pink ball. It is going to be my first experience as well. I am quite curious to see around that period (twilight) when they say that it’s going to be a little difficult. I can only say when I experience it.”

On the eve of the match, she informed the press about the exclusion of Harmanpreet Kaur from this historic day-night face-off. Harmanpreet also could not play in the preceding ODI series against Australia due to her finger injury. However, captain Mithali seemed quite confident with her team following their performance in the ODI.

“The team is definitely confident. Playing the best side before the ODI World Cup is great preparation. I do understand the first game was a bit of flash cricket we played and I really had to have a hard talk with the team and the girls really responded very well,” she added.

This Test will be their second Test in seven years, the first being the series against England in June this year. Notably, even though Australia won (2-1) the preceding ODI series, India managed to put an end to their winning streak of 26-matches.
