RCB vs MI: Kohli’s Men Hammers MI with Their Stellar Performance

On Sunday, Royal Challengers Bangalore finally managed to end their losing streak by defeating the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 54 runs. The outstanding performance by Glenn Maxwell, captain Virat Kohli, Harshal Patel and Yuvendra Chahal helped RCB to consolidate their position in the points table of the ongoing Indian Premier League.

In the 39th match of IPL 2021 in Dubai, RCB scored 165 for 6 after being sent to bat first. Glenn Maxwell was the top-scorer for the RCB with an impressive 56 off 37 while skipper Kohli (51) made a half-century off 42 balls.

On the other hand, MI could not impress with their batting performance despite having a hopeful start. Team RCB successfully defended 165 riding on the bowling performance of Patel, Chahal and Maxwell. Patel took up a hat-trick while Chahal and Maxwell picked up three and two wickets respectively.  

The opening duo of Rohit Sharma Quinton de Kock added 57 runs but the whole picture changed when Chahal broke the partnership by taking Kock’s wicket (24 off 23 balls). After Maxwell sent Sharma back to the pavilion halfway through the game, the entire MI team crumbled within 18.1 overs with a score of 111.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma attributed his dismissal as the turning point of the match leading to their 54-runs defeat. He added, Thought it was a fantastic bowling effort. Looked like they were going to get 180. The batters just let us down. The opening issue has been happening consistently. We have to make sure that the batters carry on.”

Captain Kohli seemed quite elated with his team’s performance In Dubai International Stadium. During the post-match presentation, he said, “Very happy, especially the way we won. It was a difficult start when we lost Devdutt. He came in the second over to try and get me out… KS came out and played some amazing shots. He took the pressure off me. Maxi’s innings was unbelievable.”   

Notably, in this match, the 32-year old RCB skipper became the first Indian to score 10,000 T20 runs.
