Covid Live Updates: UP Govt eases restrictions on Covid guidelines, shops to open on Saturdays

Covid Live Updates: India administered 32,077,706 covid-19 infections on Thursday after 41,195 people were found to be positive of the viral disease in the last 24 hours, according to Union Health Ministry data. The number has significantly risen from yesterday’s 38,353 cases. The daily death toll also saw a rise as 490 people succumbed to the Covid-19 taking the total death toll to 429,669.

The number of active cases dipped to 387,987 and now consists 1.21% per cent of the total caseload. As many as 31,260,050 people have recovered as of Thursday, the data from the health ministry also showed. In a significant achievement, India’s cumulative Covid-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 520 million (523,253,450) landmark milestones.

Overall nationwide tally has been hovering above 25,000 for days as some states in the country are reporting a surge in daily average cases. Though numbers are below record levels the government is still cautious of letting the guards down.

Experts have predicted the possible third wave could hit the country as soon as August-end. The recent surge in cases has been mostly led by the highlight transmissible mutation of the Covid-19, Delta variant.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has put an ease on Covid restrictions as the state will remain closed only on Sundays from August 14 due to a decline in Covid- 19 cases. Additional chief secretary Awanish Kumar Awasthi said in an order that the Covid-19 curfew will now be in place only on Sundays from August 14 and that activities will be allowed between 6am to 10pm.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to consider a partial relaxation in the two-day weekly closure of shops and business establishments. Adityanath asked the home department to present detailed guidelines in this regard. The chief minister also stressed that Covid protocol should be followed everywhere and there should not be any unnecessary congregation of people anywhere, an official said according to PTI.

Adityanath asked the officials to present appropriate guidelines regarding the new system as he stressed the importance of a continued police patrolling.
